Today
we are presenting a very different program to the upper grades (7th through
vocational). HIV/AIDS is devastating an entire generation of people in
Africa, and Ethiopia is especially hard-hit. Just a couple weeks prior
to us leaving for Africa, we were asked to do a presentation on AIDS.
We have scrambled to put together material and try to figure out what
would work best for the audience. God came through when a series of “random”
connections led to us obtaining a movie on AIDS and its impact, featuring
African actors. PLUS, an entire suggested curriculum came with the movie,
and so it has been a great structure for us to frame what we say. We have
spent time over the past couple of days nailing down the content, so it’s
time to finalize and go ahead and share with the kids. The presentation
goes well; particularly the older kids are paying close attention and
several are deeply moved by the video. Many of them probably have had
a relative or friend die of AIDS, and we hope that this material will
really motivate them to think about the impact of HIV/AIDS and what it
means for the choices they will be faced with.
