Day one was a cultural and historical lesson which was spent with Professor Awetu Simesso. We went to the National Museum and saw beautiful works of traditional and modern Ethiopian art followed by a bus ride through Addis Ababa to a grandiose Orthodox church just newly constructed which was so vividly contrasted against a row of makeshift shacks and homeless people in the background.

In the mid-afternoon we took a bus ride to the highest point of Addis Ababa which is 11,000 ft. What a breathtaking view! We then joined arms in a prayer circle and asked God to give us strength and guidance to serve our brothers and sisters of Ethiopia. We were elated and tearful to have been part of a very moving experience.

To end our day we had a wonderful dinner and enjoyed one another's company despite our lingering touches of jet- lag.
