Thursday October 26th
We had breakfast with Tseganesh from the Evangelical Church Fellowship
of Ethiopia. She heads women’s ministries over 29 denominations,
30,000 churches, 4 million members. In an overarching way, she is
trying to change a cultural tide with regard to women’s rights
in this country. At the present time, she is involved in training
women leaders who will teach other women in the church.
In the afternoon, we went to Ellilta to meet with former commercial
sex workers. 34 girls between age 18 and 24 have been involved in
the program and only one has gone back to the streets. Another saintly
man named Wondi runs the very lean program, based on the 12 steps
which he has translated into Amharic. These girls are also learning
about the love of Christ. We prayed and sang together before leaving
and learned a joyous response (ask Betty Ann to do it for you!!!).
