Today is the first sunny day with no rain since arriving in Yetebon on Tuesday. What a blessing to see the beautiful mountains surrounding the school and tents! As we are over 8,000 feet in elevation, the scenery is breathtaking and the air crisp and clean. I always assumed Africa to be hot, dry and dusty – Ethiopia at this elevation is completely different than I had imagined, so lush and green!f

PictureEach day we become a little more efficient, as we settle into our new home at Project Mercy. Although we are working long hours, there is something very refreshing about having our world focused purely on the kids and our work here – no internet, limited phone coverage, no external distractions – not bad to experience life in this simplified manner for a few weeks!

Although we grow in efficiency, each day we encounter new situations.
Today’s challenge was determining the best way to distribute prescriptions to children that are requiring medications – distribution in the classrooms was deemed the best way. Quite the fun experience to walk into classrooms to dispense medications, with so many curious and attentive eyes watching!

At the end of the day, some of the best moments are the unexpected gifts of time with the children. Be it singing songs, or their eagerness to see themselves on the camera, or some one-and-one time in play, their sparkling eyes and giggles brings such joy! What a reminder that we have so much to be thankful for…
