As part of their training, the team divided up into groups and competed in a scavenger hunt through "Little Mexico" in Redwood City. The purpose was to interact with a culture slightly different than our own, and to practice our Spanish.

Russ Hall assembles a prayer
doll while Melissa Hall fills out
paper work for the trip

Connor Lindquist decorates a
"prayer doll" to send to
friends and family

Ever Turcios from Verbo Church
teaches the rest of the team
members a praise song
in Spanish

"Short Term Mission" binders
are distributed to all team
members for use during
their training

Susan Arrington gets to know
another team member as
she assembles a prayer doll

There will be a lot of puppet
playing at VBS. These are the
puppets we bought

Steve and Laura Reed founded
Partnership Ministries. Steve will
be leading our group when we
get to Guatemala

Rosby made this Guatemalan
lunch. It includes rice, black
beans, chiles rellanos, fried
plantains, salad and Guatemalan
cheesecake. YUM!!!

Dave, Susan, Rosby, and Amanda
get to know each other better as
they prepare crafts

Melissa and Thomas package craft kits
to give to each child during the
Vacation Bible School (VBS)

In preparation for the many crafts
that will be done with the
Guatemalan kids, hundreds
of construction-paper pieces
needed to be cut out by the group.

The Lindquist family hugs each other
at the end of the training session.

One of the scavenger hunt items
was an item from the library.
Rachel and Connor, on opposing
teams, arrived at the library
simultaneously to find it
closed on Sunday.

Rosby and Melissa show the
centerpiece that they bought at
a local market. Purchasing an item
for less than $2 was one of the
challenges designed to encourage
speaking Spanish.

Jake, Russ, and Connor pose in
front of La Pachanga restaurant in
Little Mexico. The team members
were challenged to taste a food that
they had never tasted before.
