Day 7
After
a night in Columbia MD, the fourteen member week two Nicaragua Medical
Mission Team flew to Managua, Nicaragua where they spent the night at
the Best Western across from the airport. Today they met up with six members
of the week one team and their week two missionary Sandy Carter at Verbo
church where they participated in spirit filled worship. The members of
the church actually dance in the isles because they are so filled with
the Holy Spirit.
After lunch the 20 member team headed for the Jinotega
orphanage on a school bus. The trip that took 4 hours last year is expected
to take 6 hours this year because of the deterioration of the roads to
this mountain location over the last year. Tomorrow they will hold their
first medical clinic. Since the doctors in Nicaragua have been on strike
since November, there are many more sick people who need medical attention.
You are asked to pray that the team will be a blessing to the many people
they will serve.
Four members of the week one team will be returning today: Pastor Tom
Jacobs, Lefty McIntyre, Wendy Albor and Jan Hill. When you see them ask
them about their time with Amanda Vandeman Guitterez and their experience
handing out uniforms & school supplies to the children receiving the
school scholarships in addition to their work at the sports camp.
Note: Due to the remote location of the orphanage in Jinotega there is
no internet service and very limited phone service. As we receive updates
via phone we will update this site. In the meantime, please be assured
that the team will be safe and happy serving the sick during the day and
interacting with the children at the orphanage during the evenings.
"How can you love God whom you do not see, if you do not love your
neighbor whom you see, whom you touch, with whom you live......Love to
be true, has to hurt" Mother Teresa in her acceptance speech for
the Nobel Peace Prize
She asked the committee to cancel the dinner they had planned in her
honor, and use the money it would have cost to "feed four hundred
children for a year"
